HAIR RESTORATION WITH PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP).

Is your hair thinning? Are you losing your hair due to having COVID? We can help you!!

HAIR LOSS CONDITIONS

There is a difference between thin, fine hair and baldness patterns. Both men and women can experience genetic pattern baldness, meaning their hair begins to fall out at an early age. Some other hair loss conditions contribute to receding hairlines, thinning hair, and bald spots. PRP hair restoration can treat many of these, including:

If you notice that you lose a lot of hair in the shower or after brushing, this could be a sign of serious hair loss. Everyone loses a little bit of hair from time to time. However, if you consistently notice clumps falling out or bald patches, you may need PRP hair restoration.

Platelet Rich Plasma, commonly referred to as PRP, is the latest non-surgical treatment option for hair restoration and hair loss conditions that helps hair become stronger, thicker and longer. It restores thinning hair.

PRP hair therapy is a procedure in which the platelet rich plasma is injected into the scalp to stimulate and reactivate hair follicles in order to promote new hair growth. The treatment restores the damaged hair follicles via growth factors and secretory proteins from the increased concentration of platelets and their bioactive molecules.

PRP hair therapy has been clinically proven to increase hair count and hair thickness in many patients due to platelets being rich in growth and healing factors. It is an excellent preventative treatment that delivers amazing results. This treatment is a quick and safe option to promote hair growth and can be performed in the office with no downtime. It is recommended to undergo a series of 4-6 treatments spaced one month apart, followed by maintenance treatment performed every 4-6 months.  It is imperative for patients to get treated as soon as they notice their hair beginning to thin. Once the hair follicles die, we cannot restore them.

A small amount of blood is obtained from the patient similar to a routine blood test. Once the blood is drawn, it is then placed into a centrifuge device. The centrifuge spins the blood at high speeds in order to separate the blood into red blood cells and concentrated platelets. Once the blood components are separated, the red blood cells are discarded and we are left with concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) “liquid gold” that is ready to be used in the treatment process.

The concentrated platelet rich plasma contains approximately 300 to 500% of the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood.  This treatment, using your own blood is an easy, natural, safe and effective treatment that leaves pure PRP with the highest levels of growth factors and bioactive proteins.

These growth factors include:
  • Platelet-derived growth factor
  • Transforming growth factor-beta
  • Fibroblast growth factor
  • Insulin-like growth factor 1
  • Insulin-like growth factor 2
  • Vascular endothelial growth factor
  • Epidermal growth factor
  • Interleukin 8
  • Keratinocyte growth factor
  • Connective tissue growth factor
  • Cytokines and other bioactive proteins

Growth factors and bioactive proteins are the magic and allow for hair growth along with thicker and healthier hair.  PRP has been used for years to facilitate wound healing, orthopedic injuries, and medical aesthetic uses including microneedling with PRP.  Recently, many published studies have shown that PRP is a safe and effective treatment option for male and female pattern hair loss.

The different growth factors, cytokines and other bioactive proteins work together to stimulate the growth of follicles, thereby first arresting and then reversing hair loss with improved hair health and follicle vitality.

PRP’s super concentration of these growth factors aids the body’s naturally-occurring wound healing mechanism. It is also believed that PRP can actually stimulate the stem cells (dermal papilla) of the newly transplanted hair follicles.  For patients with thinning hair, alopecia, or male & female pattern baldness, PRP can be injected and/or applied with our SkinPen into the balding scalp to potentially stimulate thin (miniaturized) hair to grow into thicker (terminal) hairs.

Your PRP hair treatment procedure starts with a consultation with our experienced healthcare provider. Your medical history, present medical condition, medications, and allergies are reviewed to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for the procedure or not. If you are a suitable candidate, a treatment plan is made.

The treatment process begins by drawing blood from you on the day of the treatment. The “liquid gold” PRP is separated from the blood. The targeted area on your scalp is cleaned using a disinfectant and the injection sites are marked. The PRP is drawn into a syringe and injected into the marked injection sites on the scalp. Sometimes microneedling is combined with this procedure for better results.

You may experience some tenderness, a feeling of tightness and minimal pain in the area that was treated. It is a common side effect of the treatment and does not last more than a couple of days. After-treatment care is suggested to avoid any other side effects such as an infection of the site.

Most patients benefit from a series of PRP injections depending on the condition being treated. Four to six treatments are usually recommended. These are spaced 4 weeks apart. Then, one maintenance treatment every 4-6 months is recommended to maintain results.  PRP injections usually take 45 minutes, however expect to be in our office for approximately one hour. This includes a consultation, drawing and centrifuging the blood, and injections.

PRP is an especially safe treatment option with no risk of allergic reaction because it involves your own blood components. Similar to other injectable treatments, other adverse effects include bruising, swelling, temporary discomfort, or infection. In order to prevent bruising, we recommend to avoid blood thinners, such as aspirin, NSAIDS (such as Advil, Motrin, Naproxen), or fish oil, for at least 7 days prior to treatment unless medication is prescribed by your medical doctor.

You will start to see results around three to four months after your treatment. It takes a few months for your hair follicles to grow long strands. Around six to nine months after your treatment, your hair growth should be noticeable. Results can continue to improve for up to a year after your PRP hair restoration procedure.

PRP hair restoration can change the appearance of your hair. If you want a full head of hair with healthy, nourished locks, we recommend this innovative treatment. You can expect your results to be well worth the wait.
